I was working as a Parking Lot Attendant at an upscale grocery store called Central Market (a fancy title for someone who basically pulls shopping carts back to the front of the store for customer convenience).  It was sometimes grueling work, being outside for 8 hours in 105-degree weather, sweating through my underwear, destroying my knees and feet, walking 15 miles a day, and developing burns on my hands due to the metal on the shopping carts absorbing the heat from the sun.  Notice I only said sometimes because at other times, it was the most meditative, freeing, and incredible job I’ve ever had, due to my ability to listen to the radio.  There were many times I would lose myself in the radio stories of This American Life and the news of The Texas Standard.  Many times  I’d have tears brought to my eyes due to powerful portraits of humanity from a TAL story.  I would listen to The Texas Standard to keep up with news and learn about my community.  Public radio is something I truly love, and looking down the barrel of what is happening currently in the United States and how they are trying to kill NPR and educational material, I think it is as important as ever to deliver fantastic journalism to the masses.

I am uniquely prepared for this job because I have graphic design experience. See the materials I designed for my campus's UX club.  I created promotional and marketing materials for events that attracted 200 students and made presentations designed to educate and inform students at the events.

I have experience as a Radio DJ at Radio UTD (I had a jazz show and a country show).  So I have some basic understanding of the in-and-outs of radio broadcasting.  I have a real passion for radio and music.

I also have experience in UX Design using Figma with a specific focus on how to bring exceptional user experiences to nonprofits.  I have coding experience in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.  I also have a keen eye for developing and matching brand identities.

I want to advance the goals of KERA further by making my designs extremely attractive and readable to everyone in your audience and prospective audience.  I will take critiques very well.  I will approach everything I do with empathy and be extremely coachable and curious.  I would love to talk more about y’all’s goals for this position.  As you can imagine would be very excited to talk and learn more about the goals of this position.

Sincerely,
