Dear Circle Ten Council,
Hello! My name is Cory Olson and I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a B.A. with a focus in Design. I am writing this to express my interest in the Engagement Director position. I am particularly interested in reaching out to children who maybe don’t get to appreciate nature as much. I have experience teaching in a preschool setting. I have a real passion for educating tomorrow's future and trying to do good for a community. I want to prove myself in a professional setting. I want to volunteer and spend my time at the service of others.
During my time in college, I created a wide variety of projects and websites. I have experience in programming in Web Design, Graphic and 3D Design, Project Management, and Marketing. I was an event coordinator and oversaw the social media of the UX club at UTD wherein I created planned and marketed events for teaching UX design to my fellow students. In terms of event coordination I made sure the events were well planned out with all of our officer team allocated tasks such as media, decoration, logistics, and food service, and attending to our attending professional’s needs. I also designed and presented materials during events. In terms of marketing, I oversaw, provided feedback, and planned posts for the club's social media(Instagram, LinkedIn, discord) as well as edited our email newsletter, focusing on keeping all posts in theme with our brand, all correct information date and event times, and making sure all teams (designers, media, and executive) where completing their tasks.
The most valuable skill I learned in school was how to work with other people in different team settings. I would describe myself as curious (always wanting to learn) and coachable (either from those higher up than me in position or my colleagues on my team).
As an Eagle Scout, I have fond memories of my time in scouting. I think it would be the perfect opportunity for me to work for the community. My family is very intertwined with scouting.
